Job Description
Perform daily inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repairs on diesel trucks and trailers
Perform preventive maintenance based on vehicle mileage and operating conditions
Handle routine services including oil changes, filter replacement, batteries, lights, wipers, and other maintenance items
Inspect and repair brakes, tires, suspension, air systems, electrical systems, batteries, and cooling systems
Use diagnostic tools to read fault codes and identify vehicle problems
Troubleshoot common issues such as no-start conditions, oil or air leaks, electrical problems, and dashboard warning lights
Inspect trailer brakes, tires, lights, doors, frames, and connecting equipment
Determine whether a vehicle is safe to operate or needs immediate repair
Respond to driver-reported vehicle problems and complete necessary inspections
Assist with vehicle preparation and repairs before DOT inspections
Handle or coordinate emergency roadside repairs when needed
Complete repairs in-house whenever possible to minimize vehicle downtime
Assess more complex engine, transmission, or other major mechanical issues and recommend appropriate repair solutions
Coordinate with third-party repair shops when major repairs are required
Review repair recommendations, parts, and estimates to help avoid unnecessary repairs
Inspect completed repairs and confirm vehicles are safe for operation
Maintain inventory of common parts, tools, and maintenance supplies
Keep accurate records of vehicle inspections, repairs, maintenance, parts, and expenses
Maintain a clean and safe work area and properly care for tools and equipment
Requirements
1+ year of experience working with diesel trucks, commercial vehicles, or fleet maintenance
Good understanding of diesel truck mechanical systems and preventive maintenance
Ability to independently perform routine inspections, maintenance, and basic repairs
Familiarity with brakes, tires, air systems, electrical systems, batteries, suspension, and cooling systems
Ability to use basic mechanic tools and vehicle diagnostic equipment
Ability to assess the severity of vehicle problems and determine whether a truck is safe to operate
Knowledge of DOT vehicle safety requirements is a plus
Experience with fleet maintenance for a trucking or transportation company is a plus
Experience working on trailers or container chassis is a plus
Able to communicate with parts suppliers and outside repair shops
Basic ability to read and understand English repair information
Strong hands-on skills, reliability, and problem-solving ability
Honest and accurate when reporting vehicle problems, repairs, and parts used
Willing to assist with emergency repairs when required
Physical & Schedule Requirements
Able to lift and handle vehicle parts and tools
Able to bend, kneel, climb, and work underneath trucks and trailers
Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in different weather conditions
Willing to assist with occasional evening or weekend emergency repairs
